GORDON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Ruminations from the Laity

We at GUMC have been and are in the midst of a major renovation.  For the past several weeks we have held our Sunday Morning Service in our social hall.  Although somewhat smaller than the sanctuary, the social hall provides adequate space with only a few inconveniencies.  Some parishioners have even expressed a fondness for the confined space saying that “it brings back a hint of days passed when the congregation seemed more family like”.  Although I am sure the new furnishings when the church improvements are completed will be splendid, I too think that sometimes we need to be shaken from our comfort zone and placed in a different setting. We as a congregation need a “stimulus package” to jump start us and remind us of what the church is all about.  During this coming Christmas season, it will be all too easy to become caught up in the hustle of preparing for the moment only to be burnt out by the time the moment arrives.  I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a blessed Holiday Season. And I also hope that each of you will take the time to stop and take in the sights and sounds of this Christmas Season. From the choir’s Christmas Cantata to the Unity Handbell Choir’s Christmas special to even the secular decorations in all the stores, may you be stimulated and renewed during this Christmas Season.

Merry Christmas and God Bless.
